Jiaozuo is a mid-level city located in the northern part of Henan province, about 2 hours northeast of Luoyang. It has a population of 3.5 million people and is known economically for its blast furnaces and machine construction industries. Our unit is located just south of the main city area.
Our original unit in Jiaozuo was New Hope’s first venture into the Henan province. After hearing of New Hope’s work in Beijing, the Children’s Welfare Institute (CWI) director at the time graciously invited New Hope to move into a floor of the orphanage to care for the children which were not expected to live. Jiaozuo can be rightly attributed as the “megaphone” of our work in Henan. Once the unit was up and running for some time, other CWI directors in the province got word and came to visit, eventually opening the doors for our work in Luoyang, Zhengzhou, and then Xinyang.
In the Spring of 2011 the Jiaozuo CWI moved to a new building where we were generously given the entire 4th floor, increasing the number of children we care for daily to 12.
All our special care centers care for some babies that are not expected to live and also babies with very critical medical conditions, we do not take this responsibility lightly and are very grateful that the local Children’s Welfare Institutes have entrusted us with their care.
